There's a beautiful 6.2-acre county park in the heart of Beverly Hills - and almost nobody knows about it. Virginia Robinson Gardens is the former home of Virginia Robinson and her husband Harry, whose father founded Robinson's department store (later Robinsons-May) way back in 1883. Although Harry passed away in 1932, Virginia lived at the estate for sixty-six years, giving it to the County of Los Angeles shortly
before her death in 1977.

Once a hub of the Beverly Hills social scene, today it's a tranquil oasis of gardens, fountains, a historic home, and lots of legends. Mark Tapio Kines has entertained the SFVHS twice before to talk about the origins of Valley street names. He has volunteered at Virginia Robinson Gardens as a docent and occasional gardener for five years. Join him as he shares photos and stories of the fun-loving Virginia and her estate - and reveals her surprising ties to San Fernando Valley pioneers.

Visit RobinsonGardens.Org to book a docent-led tour.
