June 26 at 7:00 p.m. - at the Andres Pico Adobe

Women refined and popularized the American silent film industry. They worked behind and in front of the camera, pioneering and dominating many professions, producing films, mentoring colleagues, and advancing cinema's artistry. The labor, leadership, and creativity of these female visionaries turned the Hollywood film industry into one of the most successful forms of entertainment in the world.

Books will be available for purchase at the meeting.
Motion picture historian Mary Mallory will show how women such as Lois Weber, Tsuru Aoki, Nell Shipman, and others made their mark on silent films while living and working in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys.
