Saturday, December 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the Andres Pico Adobe

On December 6, the annual Las Posadas procession at the Adobe was again a
colorful and meaningful event. Children and adults from the community gathered for our yearly celebration. SFVHS Board Member, Stefanie Garcia, gave the official welcome wearing the gorgeous and traditional sequined “China Poblana” outfit. Guests received small “candles” to help light the path which was lined with luminarias and children were provided with sarapes to wear.

Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception played guitars and sang traditional songs. The procession of Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, and the guests circled the Adobe in search for a place for Mary to give birth to Baby Jesus. As they knocked at each of the Adobe doors in search of lodging, they were met with refusal by the innkeepers, who all looked suspiciously like SFVHS President Ron Van Deest. Mary, Joseph and the angels had an uncanny resemblance to Board member Joanna Rosales, her boyfriend and her extended family. They finally found the stable and a manger where it is said Jesus was born.

After the procession and music, the gates to our courtyard opened where guests
enjoyed traditional sweets, After the procession, there were traditional refreshments including delicious champurrados and conchas. After several children made valiant attempts, the pinata was finally cracked open and the candies flew, to everyone’s delight. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and their Elf took time out of their busy schedule (how they do get around!) to join us at the Adobe after the procession in the courtyard.
