August 28 Speaker Meeting: 1936 Movie "Ramona"

Ramona Film ShowingOn Thursday August 28th, we will be meeting at the Andres Pico Adobe. At this event we will be showing the 1936 movie "Ramona" in the patio area. Based on the 1884 novel by Helen Hunt Jackson, tells the story of the life of a mixed race orphan girl. Loretta Young stars in the lead role of Ramona and Don Ameche portrays Alessandro, who elopes with Ramona to take her away from her sad life. One of the earliest Technicolor movies, this film is reported to be (according to some reviewers) "very romantic; you can't help being swept up in it." This 84-minute movie will be shown at dusk (about 7:30), although the gates will open at 6:30 pm for anyone who wants to bring supper for a picnic in the park. (Please help us observe the city’s "No alcohol in the park" policy.) Refreshments will be served during themovie and there will be a free door prize drawing. Donations, as always, are accepted and greatly appreciated.

Andres Pico Adobe

The Andres Pico Adobe is one of the oldest residences in the City of Los Angeles. It represents a bygone era and the rich historical past of the San Fernando Valley. Inside are museum displays of native American beads, Mission and Spanish-Mexican era artifacts, costumes and clothing that span more than a century, and furniture from the Victorian era, when the Adobe was home to members of the Pico family.
