Mission Hills, CA - Western trails historian and film producer John Krizek reveals "Escape from Death Valley," a heroic story of survival, anguish and determination, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at the Andres Pico Adobe, 10940 Sepulveda Blvd., Mission Hills. Sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Historical Society, this event is free and the general public is welcome.

Valley resident Krizek will unfold the amazing but true story of his new documentary about a group of pioneers who decided to take a shortcut to California's gold fields through the desert. After the group became stranded, two young boys left the wagons to walk to the San Fernando Mission to get help. It is this group's dramatic experience that reportedly gave Death Valley its name.

"Escape from Death Valley" is Krizek's latest film production about true adventures of the Old West. In 1991, he produced "Forgotten Journey," a documentary about the first wagons to cross the Sierra Nevada in 1844 as part of the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy party. This film aired on many PBS channels across the country.

Depending upon weather conditions, Krizek's presentation on his new documentary will be held in the lovely courtyard of the 169-year-old landmark Andres Pico Adobe, located at Sepulveda and Brand Boulevards (directly across from the Mission Hills Annex of the U.S. Post Office).
